| In July we went to visit my father-in-law who has moved to Motueka, a small town near Nelson renowned for its climate. It takes about 6 hours to drive there through some very pleasant scenery. On the way up there we stopped off at Maruia Falls. This waterfall was created by the 1929 Murchison earthquake (estimated magnitude 7.8). The Murchison river was diverted by a landslide in the valley and over the following years the sediments in this area were gradually washed away to expose the cliff and create the waterfall. | |
